With all the attention focused on the upcoming flagship handsets from the likes of Samsung and HTC, Motorola has seemingly flown under the radar, with very little news about its 2013 plans emerging from the shadows. However, there has been a handful of reports suggesting that the Google-owned smartphone manufacturer is cooking up an all-new handset that’s currently dubbed as the “X Phone.”

With Motorola’s pre-Google product pipeline all but exhausted already, it should come as no surprise that the online search giant would want to leverage its acquisition to make some good hardware to match the release of the latest version of its mobile operating system.

Here is the word on the streets:

  • Motorola X Phone will be announced at Google I/O in May.
  • Current target for release is July 8 (definitely subject to change).
  • All carriers will sell the X Phone.
  • Verizon will sell it for $ 299 on contract.
  • All versions will also be sold through the Google Play store at similar off-contract price to Nexus line.
